day 1 - Exploring Kenai peninsula

July 5th, 2005

Next morning we went straight to REI (outdoor store) and after that to Wal-Mart.
In contrary to our expectations, the Wal-Mart's prices were about the same of Western NY..
You can pick from which area you want to create your map..

Upper Paradise Lake.. we'll go there soon..

We want to hit the hwy as soon as we can.

We had to drive 400 miles that day. We drove down to Homer (Western Kenai) then to Seward (Southern Kenai)..

We left Anchorage on the Seward Hwy along the Turnagain arm of the Cook inlet.

One can find the Portage-glacier about 80 miles from Anchorage. This is one of Alaska's most visited attractions.

We have to check this out..

Let's look around a bit..

Panorama

The team:)

$5 question: Where did we hide a stone in one of the pictures?:))

We continue towards Homer. A "mom&pop" groceries store at a truck stop..

Anchor Point, 'the most westerly point on the North American continent accessible by
a continuous road system'.

A very popular fishing spot.

Halibut fishing capital of the world

Kachemak Bay

In the middle of the picture you can see the Homer Split..

On the split..

The bay..

Old fisherwoman and the sea..

Lot of kiosks are waiting for the tourists

Daily catch..

Take a picture in front of your halibut

They gilled the halibuts for the customers..

Download a video of the halibut gilling!!! (mpg, 6.7M, 0:38)

We tried the fried halibut.. it was very good!!:))

Lot of campers around

There was a thrift store on the split

I did not know if you can buy the bus too:))

A moose had a dinner along the road..

Spectators..:)

Let's go to Seward!

Get ready for fishing, an eager fisherman..

I like this valley:))

Our camping in Seward

The other side of the inlet

We were quite in the North, thus it wasn't dark even at 11
