day 6 - Denali hwy, shot traffic signs, salmons

July 10th, 2005

Next morning we hit the unpaved Denali hwy

We would like to reach Valdez today, which was 350 miles away.

Breakfast on the empty Denali hwy

Traffic signs are usually shot in Alaska, (may be bored RVers?:))
We even saw a sign saying "Please do not shoot roadside signs!"

There are only 2-3 settlements along the 120-mile highway. One of them is Maclaren River Lodge

Watch out, there's something behind us!!:))

It was really good to drive again on concrete, we stopped for a lunch
We could see Wrangell-St. Elias National Park far away

Visitor Center of the National Park

We continued toward South, along the Trans-Alaskan pipeline

Worthington glacier

Keystone canyon

with scenic waterfalls (not as big as Niagara:))

A waterfall next to Valdez

We found a really good spot in Valdez camping, on the top of this small hill

We had to go fishing, Feco went for the salmons but with no luck

Although Szabi was successful with much more simple means..

like that:))

I had to give a try too..

And Feco caught two more

Our dinner:))

Szabi gilled them on that spot

They went into paprika flour and then

into the frying pan

Invited our neighbor for the dinner

Yummy:))

Fire officer:))

Thanks for the dinner, it was wonderful!:)

13-storied copper mine and $10,000 Reward on day 7..
